The idea
‘The Imperfection’ is an epic graphic novel that I’m currently working on. It’s a madcap comic adventure of self discovery which follows a fearless young girl called Penny and her faithful friend Stan the robot.
The story unfolds in a richly layered sci-fi fantasy world where four merciless A.I. corporations collide with old world magic and ancient wisdom. The narrative is interwoven with themes of courage, friendship, morality, self-mastery and spiritual awakenings. Each chapter loosely draws upon the lessons found within ‘The Fool’s Journey’, as laid out in Tarot’s archetypal Major Arcana cards.
It features an eclectic cast of characters including:
– A tri-polar witch
– A frosty hermit
– A sassy stuntwoman
– An uncaged artist
– A wise hippie
– A mysterious tarot reader
– A timid forest nymph
– Multiple megalomaniacs
– Quite a few robots
– And a girl who’d just like to see her parents again
You don’t need to be fearless; doing it afraid is just as brave.

My journey into the world of comics
This project has been brewing in the back of my mind for a few years now. I tend to ruminate over a tiny seed of an idea until it grows into a seedling with real potential. I have always loved and been fascinated by comics since as long as I can remember, which is a huge cliché I know; but it’s true. To this day I still take inspiration from those comics I remember reading as a child including: The Beano, Marvel Comics, Willy the Kid, Peanuts, Asterix, Tintin, Wham!, Judge Dredd, Dan Dare, Manga comics etc.
The process has been immensely enjoyable and challenging. As I began to combine all my ideas into a single plot, the story grew bigger and more complex. With plenty of pruning and a great deal of care and attention it soon began to blossom.
With a host of intriguing yet somehow believable characters and a few, very British, idiosyncrasies I hope to share the finished book with the world very soon! Watch this space…
